also known as “Rashtrapati Niwas,” is a historic building that served as the official residence of the British Viceroy during the summer months. After India’s independence in 1947, it became the official residence of the President of India when they visited Shimla. The building was originally constructed in 1888 as a residence for Lord Dufferin, the then Viceroy of India. Over the years, the building was renovated and expanded to accommodate the needs of the various Viceroys and Presidents who stayed there. In 1948, after India’s independence, the building was renamed “Rashtrapati Niwas” and became the official residence of the President of India when they visited Shimla.
